It’s a thought-provoking and unique take on what it means to connect with the word of Christ, and one we couldn’t resist getting to know a little better.

We spoke to the translator to get some more insights into what led him to take this unique approach.

“For me the words of Christ have always been about showing you the way forward. They’re about connecting with you in a way that allows you to live your life in accordance with his teachings, but with that comes a problem. Whilst there is no such thing as a perfect translation, the use and utility of translations changes over time. It’s about creating something that’s accessible and welcoming for people from all backgrounds, walks of life and levels of education. That was the inspiration behind this project.”

The idea is to introduce the reader to the words of scripture in a way that isn’t daunting, confusing or overly academic — something which is sure to impact many believers.

“That’s exactly right. I couldn’t have put it better myself. By using simple colloquial phrases, I’ve tried to open up New Testament teachings and insights in a way that will impact all our lives. It’s about making these centuries old words accessible to people living in 2020 and beyond.”

Helm’s approach is certainly unique, but has it presented him with any issues when dealing with the wider faith-based community? We put this question to him so we could gauge the reception and really get a sense of what his work means to the people who have already had a chance to digest and connect with it.

“As I said when we first sat down, there’s no such thing as a perfect translation. There will always be people who will prefer the Bible’s message to be rendered in a different way, but they are not the ones this translation is for. I’m reaching out to the millions of people who want to connect with the Bible in a way that is comfortable for them. They are seeking answers, but they can be knocked out of their stride by language that is overly complicated or academic. I hope to reach a new audience with up to date language that does not change the Bible’s message.”

Certainly an inspiring way of looking at God’s word, and one we couldn’t agree with more.
