Diversity Fashion World Recounts Successful Fashion Show at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Diversity Fashion World was invited by the Aquarium of the Pacific and Olary Yim to present an iconic runway display of cultural fashion during the Southeast Asia celebration on October 1, 2022. This rich cultural fashion show was hosted by international host, Nate Calima, and featured fashion designers: Khmer Bridal and Trang Bui.

Talented designer and owner of Khmer Bridal, Kaylene Men, showcased a creative collection inspired by the Kingdom of Cambodia. Her motto is “walk a mile in someone’s clothes, before judging someone, then you might understand their experiences, challenges, thought process, history, and culture”. Like many immigrants, she escaped a war-filled country to come to the USA.
Their second designer, Trang Bui, is well known in the Vietnamese community with her elegant designs. Her designs were inspired by the traditional Vietnamese culture but with a contemporary twist. Her show-stopping designs are a force to be reckoned with.
The festival’s program highlighted the beauty and diversity of the cultures of Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Indonesia. Guests enjoyed music, dance, and cultural craft demonstrations. This year’s turnout was astonishing with hundreds of invited guests that attended this highly anticipated event.
Diversity Fashion World was founded by 4 inspirational women who have come together to create a dynamic experience for all who will be in attendance. Co-founders and visionaries of this exciting event include Daria Alasmar (Actor, Author), Pretty Kaur D (Founder/Owner of fashion and beauty brand, Pretty Kaur D. and Co-Founder of a non-profit, CA Sikhs), Niza Oun-Nguyen (Founder of Camb From Nothing, Youniversal Energy, and Aspire to Bee) and Sherine Zaza (Owner of Zaza Transformations) These influential women have accomplished so much for their communities and as entrepreneurs and have collaborated to create an impactful platform together with creating Diversity Fashion World and an Academy for models.
The platform aims to unite people of all backgrounds and encourage them to learn about their similarities and differences to help build bridges of empathy and communication with one another. The events empower both models and designers to honor their heritage and express the traditions of their culture in an inclusive and safe space.
